This is a topic that seems to always be on my mind. A lot of times people go about their daily routines without looking at the broader picture. You might be surprised that what you are doing in your day to day life now could actually be hurting you for later on.
Ask yourself a few questions.....
Do you sit at an office for 9 hours a day? Do you eat processed foods? Do you lack exercise and movement? Do you eat out? Do you smoke? Do you drink? If you answered yes to any of these, you could be causing your body more harm then good.
Unfortunately, medicine seems to be the cure for everything now a days, but what if we prevented it from ever being prescribed? I am a firm believer that if you TRULY take care of yourself now you will benefit from it later on in life.
What is the number one killer?
Here in the good ol' USA we strive to be hardworking, money making, successful people. Trust me, I am ALL for it. However, are we doing it the RIGHT way? Sure, being successful is a great thing but what if you have so many health problems in 10 years that all the money you make goes right to doctor bills? Are you truly successful? No. So what is my suggestion to prevent this downhill crash? Change the way you think. Make living in GOOD health your number one priority, not work. I promise that when you put yourself and your wellness first everything else will fall into place.
LACK OF MOVEMENT:
Back to the whole 9-5 drive. I get it, we all need to work to survive. In todays day and age working consist of sitting at a desk and typing for HOURS on end! The most common injury I see now a days is wrist and forearm problems. Why? Computers, that is why (make sure you are using wrist supports and that you strengthen your forearms). I know your boss won't let you work without a computer but strive to get some movement in during your work days. Stand up and walk around every 15-30 minutes or add in a short little circuit at your desk. Some offices even incorporate standing computers- awesome. I love the person who came up with that one!
Everything seems to come back to that daily grind- work. So you worked all day and got in 3 cups of coffee and maybe a snack from the vending machine, do you think you properly nourished your body? You are probably starving at this point and don't have the time nor energy to even think about making dinner. What do you do? You turned to fast and convenient food. Its a vicious cycle that traps people in... get out while you can! Make your food ahead of time and BE PREPARED. My favorite quote is, "fail to prepare, prepare to fail." Don't forget it.
This seems to be a no brainer but I can't tell you how many people don't get enough SLEEP!! Sleep is so vital and such a precious thing... don't lack in it! We don't function properly on low sleep nor is it good for our systems to try and run on low to no energy. Get at least 7-8 hours a day. Tell me how great you feel afterwards.
DRINKING AND SMOKING:
I don't even want to get into detail about this because it is pretty obvious. Drugs are bad. Don't do them. I am not even a big advocate of drinking, but if you must then limit your intake to 1-2 nights a week and in moderation!
Start making your life healthier. Your body will thank you when you are older and so will your family.
