A lot of times when we have guests over, we ALWAYS seem to get comments about our food. I am going to take it as a compliment because I am PROUD of my kitchen! I figured I'd share the goods of my kitchen and what it consists of!
Veggies, veggies and MORE veggies. We LOVE to eat fresh veggies and about 3 shelves in our fridge consists of fresh vegetables. Of course we have your average 90 count whole eggs, 4 containers of egg beaters, all natural nut butters (yum), and some simple condiments, some fresh fruit and herbs but that is about it. Our freezer houses all our prepared chicken and sweet potatoes (made on the weekends), frozen vegetables (in case we run out), arctic zero (off season yum) and IF we have any chocolate in our house it is kept in here. If you freeze it you won't eat as much!
Here is where I get a LOT of stares. I might be obsessed with protein powder. It is an easy way to get protein into your system. You can grab it in a hurry and it doesn't leave a mess! We happen to have about 10-12 containers of different flavors (favorite brand is optimum nutrition). We also have coconut flour (lower in carbs), coconut flakes (good in protein pancakes), flax meal, all of our vitamins and supplements, oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, and a few cans of artichokes. We try and stay away from canned food but artichokes are the one thing I do buy... I love them!
We don't keep any food in our cabinets, but we do keep our secret ingredients in here! I love trying new extracts and spices. Some of my favorite in our cabinets are butter extract, almond extract, banana extract, coconut extract, chocolate extract and vanilla extract. My favorite spices are CINAMMON ( I put it on everything), pumpkin spice, apple pie spice, ground nutmeg and ground cloves. For seasonings, I love using garlic powder (if I don't use fresh garlic), sea salt, italian seasonings, ginger, red wine vinegar, olive oil and fresh black pepper.
As you can see, if you set up your kitchen as a NO failure zone, you will stay on track. We almost never have any bad food in our house and it is always fresh. We go grocery shopping every 5-7 days.
